I live in Kameido, on the east side of Tokyo.
There is an old shrine here called Kameido Tenjin. The wisteria flowers in April. Japanese people know the place well enough. It almost never appears in a guidebook written in another language.
The trains to Skytree run through this neighbourhood. Travellers ride them with big suitcases. Almost none of them get off.
Next to the Tokyo a guidebook hands you, there is the Tokyo that people here walk through every day. Both of them are real. You came a long way. I would like you to see both, and that is why I started this.
How it is made
I use AI to organise information and to translate it. Nothing goes up until I have checked it with my own eyes.
That rule came out of being badly burned.
Some time after the site went live, I went through the photographs one by one. Out of 107, 88 showed somewhere other than the place they were named after. A shrine in Kyoto was doing duty as three different shrines in Tokyo. Tokyo Tower was captioned as Skytree.
I deleted all of them.
Around the same time, the Asakusa page carried a sukiyaki restaurant on the second floor above a sweet shop. It explained where the stairs were. The restaurant did not exist.
That went too.
Most of the photographs here now were taken by me, standing in the place. For the neighbourhoods I cannot get to, I look through public archives that are free to use. When it is neither of those, there is no photograph.
I would rather the page held less than have it hold something false.
